About the Artist
I’m Robyn Zav, a Washington-based artist working primarily in acrylics.
Art has been part of my life in one form or another since I was a child, but my current work grew from giving myself permission to create differently—to follow curiosity rather than trying to make art the way I thought I was supposed to make it.
I’ve discovered that I’m happiest when there is an element of unpredictability in the process. Traditional, highly planned painting rarely holds my attention for long. Give me fluid paint, unexpected color interactions, emerging shapes, and something I can respond to, and I can disappear into the process.
That freedom has led me toward a style that moves between abstraction and recognizable imagery rather than fitting neatly into either one. Sometimes a figure, tree, flower, or landscape is planned from the beginning. Other times I discover it along the way.
For me, painting is as much about noticing and responding as it is about creating—and I hope my work gives someone else a reason to stop and notice, too.
